PDF Reports
Generate downloadable PDF inspection reports from your callouts and measurements. This guide covers creating callouts, configuring what appears in the report, generating the PDF, and delivering it to clients.

Prerequisites
Active Nira subscription (Professional, Enterprise, or Trial)
At least one uploaded asset with callouts or measurements marked for inclusion
Edit access to the asset (or access via inspection link)
What's in a PDF Report
A Nira PDF report compiles your Defect callouts and Measurements into a formatted document with:
Asset name and metadata
Screenshot of each included callout at its bookmarked camera position
Callout title, type, severity level, and description
Measurement values (distance, area, volume) if included
Geographic coordinates (WGS84) if the asset is georeferenced
Your organization's logo (if custom branding is configured)
Page numbers and generation date
βΉοΈ Note: Only Defect and Measurement callout types appear in PDF reports. Annotations and Camera Bookmarks are excluded. If you need something in the report, make sure it's marked as a Defect or Measurement.
Creating Callouts for the Report
From the 3D Viewer
Open the asset and enter Edit Mode
Click the Callout Tool in the left toolbar
Click a location on the 3D model
Select Add Callout
Choose Defect as the callout type
Fill in the title and description
Set the severity level (this controls the callout color and appears in the report)
Click Done
Repeat for each area you want to document. Position the camera at a clear viewing angle before creating each callout β Nira saves this camera position as the screenshot for the PDF.
From the Photo Viewer
For photo-based inspections (common for drone surveys):
Open the asset and click View Photos
Click any photo in the thumbnail strip to open it
Zoom and pan to the area of interest
Click Add Callout and drag a rectangle around the defect
Fill in the callout details
Photo callouts appear in the PDF report as annotated photo crops.
π‘ Tip: For the best report quality, position the bounding box around the entire area of interest in the image. The PDF uses whatever rectangle is drawn when you create the callout.
Marking Callouts for PDF Inclusion
Each Defect and Measurement has an Include in PDF Report toggle:
Click on an existing callout
In the callout detail panel, find Include in PDF Report
Toggle it on
Only callouts with this toggle enabled appear in the generated report. You can use this to create a focused report with just the callouts that matter for a particular deliverable.
β οΈ Warning: The "Include in PDF Report" option is only available for Defect and Measurement types. If you don't see it, check that your callout type isn't set to Annotation or Camera Bookmark.
Generating the Report
Open the asset in Edit Mode
Click the hamburger menu (top-right, three lines)
Click Generate Report
Wait for generation to complete (typically 10β30 seconds depending on the number of callouts)
Click Download Report
The PDF saves to your browser's default download location with a filename like Nira_Report_[AssetName]_[Date].pdf.
Customizing the Report
Branding
Professional, Business, and Enterprise plans can replace the Nira logo with your company logo on all PDF reports:
Click the hamburger menu β Branding (Admin only)
Upload your logo as SVG (recommended) or PNG (32-bit with alpha channel)
Your logo appears on all future PDF reports
Enterprise plans with white labeling also remove the "Powered by Nira" footer from reports.
Severity Levels and Colors
Defect callouts have severity levels that control their color in both the 3D viewer and the PDF report. Use consistent severity levels across your organization so reports are easy to scan:
Set severity when creating the callout
Change severity anytime by clicking the callout β editing the severity dropdown
Severity colors are consistent between the viewer and the PDF
What You Can Control
Which callouts appear (via "Include in PDF Report" toggle)
Callout titles, descriptions, and severity
Camera position for each callout's screenshot
Measurement parameters (units, precision, calibration β via Edit Mode β View Options β Measurements)
Organization branding
What's Not Supported
Annotation and Camera Bookmark callouts do not appear in PDF reports β only Defects and Measurements. If you created Annotations expecting them in the report, change the callout type to Defect
Custom report templates β you cannot modify the report layout, fonts, or section ordering
Rich text in callout descriptions β planned but not yet available
Selective photo inclusion β all photo callouts marked for inclusion appear; you can't choose individual photos
Batch report generation β reports are generated per-asset, not across multiple assets
Delivering Reports to Clients
Workflow: Survey to Report
A typical drone survey inspection workflow:
Upload the 3D model, photos, and camera alignment data
Review the asset in the 3D viewer, creating Defect callouts at problem areas
Generate the PDF report
Share the PDF with your client via email, project portal, or cloud storage
Alternatively, send your client an inspection link so they can review the 3D model themselves, mark their own defects, and you generate the report from their callouts.
Combining with Inspection Links
A powerful workflow for collaborative inspections:
Upload the asset
Send your client an inspection link
Client reviews the model and creates callouts
You review the client's callouts, adjust severity levels as needed
Generate the PDF report capturing both your and the client's observations
Troubleshooting
"I don't see 'Generate Report' in the menu."
Cause: You're not in Edit Mode, or your plan doesn't include PDF reports.
Fix:
Enter Edit Mode (click the Edit toggle in the viewer)
Check that you're on a Professional, Enterprise, or Trial plan. Individual plans don't include PDF reports
Make sure you have Edit access to the asset
"The report is empty or has no callouts."
Cause: No callouts have "Include in PDF Report" enabled, or your callouts are Annotations/Camera Bookmarks (not Defects or Measurements).
Fix:
Open each callout and verify it's a Defect or Measurement type
Toggle Include in PDF Report to on for each callout you want in the report
Regenerate the report
"The screenshot in the report doesn't show what I expected."
Cause: The camera position saved with the callout doesn't frame the defect well.
Fix:
Click the callout in the viewer
Navigate to a better camera angle
Click Set Bookmark (in the callout dropdown) to update the saved camera position
Regenerate the report
"Coordinates in the report look wrong."
Cause: The asset's coordinate system wasn't set correctly during upload, or the data wasn't exported with georeferencing.
Fix:
Check the asset's coordinate system in the viewer settings
If the asset isn't georeferenced, coordinates won't appear (or will show local coordinates)
See Georeference & Map View for how to set or verify your CRS
"My client needs measurements in the report but I only see callouts."
Cause: Measurements are separate from callouts. They need to be created using the measurement tool, not the callout tool.
Fix:
Use the Measurement tool (ruler icon) to create distance, area, or volume measurements
Each measurement has its own "Include in PDF Report" toggle
Measurements appear alongside Defect callouts in the report
Technical Notes
Report format: Standard PDF, suitable for printing, emailing, and archival
Report size: Depends on the number of callouts and screenshot resolution. Typical reports are 2β20 MB
Callout types in reports: Defects and Measurements only. Annotations and Camera Bookmarks are excluded by design
Georeferenced data: If the asset has a valid CRS, WGS84 coordinates appear alongside each callout in the report
Custom branding: Logo uploads apply to all future reports. SVG recommended for best quality across all print sizes
White labeling: Enterprise only. Removes "Powered by Nira" footer and replaces all Nira branding
Concurrent generation: You can generate reports for multiple assets simultaneously
Photo callouts: Photo-based callouts (created in the photo viewer) appear in the report as annotated photo crops alongside 3D callout screenshots
