How Auto-Renewal Works
Why Auto-Renewal Happens
All Nira subscriptions automatically renew because they're recurring monthly or annual plans. When you subscribe, you're enrolling in an ongoing service that continues until you actively cancel. This is standard for SaaS products—auto-renewal isn't unique to Nira.
The key point: You must cancel proactively to stop renewal. It won't pause automatically.
When Your Subscription Renews
Your renewal date depends on your billing cycle:
Monthly plans: Renew every 30 days from your start date (e.g., May 5 → June 5 → July 5)
Annual plans: Renew every 365 days from your start date (e.g., May 5, 2026 → May 5, 2027)
You'll receive an email 7–10 days before renewal from billing@nira.app reminding you of the upcoming charge. If these emails go to spam, add billing@nira.app to your safe senders list.
What You're Charged
At renewal, you're charged the full plan price for your next billing period:
Individual annual plan: $228/year
Individual monthly plan: $119/month
Professional/Enterprise: Custom amounts per your agreement
Tax may be added based on your location (see Invoices, Receipts & Tax Documentation).
⚠️ Important: If you don't cancel before your renewal date, you will be charged. There's no pause option—cancellation is the only way to stop.
Canceling Your Subscription
Step-by-Step
Log in and click your profile icon (top-right)
Select Account Settings
Click the Billing tab
Look for your current plan section and click "Cancel Subscription" (may also say "Manage Subscription" → then "Cancel")
Review the confirmation dialog showing your access end date (usually the last day of your current billing period)
Click "Yes, Cancel" to confirm
You'll see a confirmation message, and you'll receive a confirmation email
That's it. You're canceled. No penalties. No surprise charges after this.
What Happens Immediately After
Your subscription status changes to "Canceled" in Account Settings > Billing
Your next renewal charge will not occur
You keep full access to Nira through the end of your current billing period (e.g., if you paid for April, you keep access through April 30)
The Data Timeline After Cancellation
End of current billing period (e.g., April 30):
You lose login access
Your account becomes locked
Next 30 days (May 1–30):
Your assets are archived but stored
You can reactivate by subscribing again—all data is restored instantly
No charge for this 30-day window
After 30 days with no reactivation:
Your data is permanently deleted
This cannot be undone. You cannot recover your assets.
⚠️ Critical: If there's any chance you'll come back to Nira, remember this 30-day window. If you're unsure about canceling, consider downgrading to a lower plan or waiting. Once 30 days pass, your data is gone.
Refund Policy
Unexpected Charge? We Can Help
We understand that an unexpected auto-renewal charge is frustrating. Here's our approach:
If you were charged and didn't expect it, you have two options:
Request a refund (see below)
Cancel immediately to stop future charges
When Refunds Are Available
Nira offers refunds on a case-by-case basis if:
You were charged without proper notification (we send renewal emails 7–10 days prior, but they can get caught in spam)
The charge was made in error
You can demonstrate you attempted to cancel before renewal
You're requesting within 30 days of the charge date
How to Request a Refund
Go to Account Settings > Billing
Find the charge in your Invoice History
Click "Request Refund" or "Contact Support"
Briefly explain:
The charge date and amount
Why you believe it warrants a refund
Whether you've already canceled
Alternatively, contact support directly with your invoice details.
Timeline:
Nira reviews requests within 2–3 business days
If approved, the refund is issued to your original payment method
You'll see it in your account within 5–10 business days (bank-dependent)
Note: Refund decisions are at Nira's discretion. We prioritize fairness for users genuinely unaware of their renewal, especially if renewal emails were missed.
Reactivation: Can You Come Back?
Yes, within 30 days of losing access.
To reactivate:
Log in with your original email and password
Follow the subscription steps in Trial FAQ & Subscribing Guide
Your account, assets, and history are restored instantly
No data is lost
After 30 days, data deletion is permanent. You can create a new account, but it will be empty.
Troubleshooting
"I canceled but was still charged."
Most likely cause: You canceled close to your renewal date (within a few hours). The charge processed before cancellation took effect.
Fix:
Verify your cancellation status: Go to Account Settings > Billing. It should show "Canceled."
Request a refund (see "Refund Policy" above) if you were charged after cancellation
No future charges will occur
Rarely, a charge can process from an old subscription or payment processor authorization. Check Account Settings to confirm your status. If it shows "Canceled" but you see a charge, contact support.
"I can't find the Cancel button."
The button may be hidden or labeled differently.
Fix:
Go to Account Settings > Billing
Look for a button labeled "Cancel Subscription," "Manage Subscription," or "End Subscription"
If you see "Manage Subscription," click it and scroll down—the cancel option is usually at the bottom
If you still can't find it, contact support
"I canceled before my renewal date. Why was I still charged?"
Your cancellation takes effect immediately, but the renewal charge may have been queued by your payment processor.
Fix:
Confirm your status is "Canceled" in Account Settings > Billing
Check your Invoice History; no charge should appear after your cancellation date
If it does, request a refund or contact support
"My renewal is in 2 days. If I cancel now, will I lose access?"
No. You keep access through the end of your current billing period.
Example: If your renewal date is May 5 and you cancel on May 3:
You keep access through May 4 (today's renewal wouldn't happen)
Actually, you keep access through your current billing cycle end—if you paid for the full month of May, you keep access through May 31
No charge occurs at renewal
You have 30 days after access removal to reactivate if you change your mind
"I want my data backed up before I cancel."
Before your access is removed, you have time to download and export your assets offline.
After you lose access, your data is archived for 30 days. If you need to recover it:
Log in within 30 days of losing access
Reactivate your subscription
All data is instantly restored
If more than 30 days have passed, data is permanently deleted.
"I didn't realize auto-renewal was a thing. How do I prevent this?"
Going forward:
Mark your renewal date: Check Account Settings > Billing and set a phone reminder 7 days before
Check your email: Add billing@nira.app to your safe senders so renewal reminders don't go to spam
Cancel proactively: Don't wait until after you're charged—cancel before your renewal date
"I downgraded my plan. Do I need to cancel too?"
No, those are different actions.
Downgrading: Reduces your plan price but keeps billing active. You'll be charged at the lower rate at renewal.
Canceling: Stops all billing at your renewal date.
If you want to stop being charged entirely, you must cancel. To confirm: Account Settings > Billing should show "Canceled," not "Active."
Technical Notes
Cancellation timing: Cancellation takes effect immediately, but you retain access through the end of your current billing period. Renewal charges are blocked from that moment.
Renewal emails: Sent from billing@nira.app 7–10 days before renewal. They can hit spam filters—add the sender to your safe list.
Renewal timing: Based on UTC. Your local time may differ; check your exact renewal date in Account Settings.
Payment failures: If your card is declined at renewal, Nira retries for 5–7 days. After that, your account is suspended.
Grace period: 30 days from the date you lose login access (usually your renewal date), not from cancellation.
Data deletion: After 30 days with no reactivation, data is permanently deleted. Deletion is irreversible.
Account reactivation: Reactivating within 30 days restores your original account ID, assets, and history as if you never left.
